"My hope in writing is to glorify Jesus Christ, and to encourage you to love Him with all of your heart. I pray that you get a glimpse of the Father through these words and devotions. My desire is for heart-strings to be tugged and souls to be searched as I express my adoration for Jesus."

Characters of the Christmas Story

As we count down the upcoming weeks leading to our Savior's birthday, I wanted to focus on each of those involved in the Christmas story. In keeping with Pastor Ken's sermons on the manger, I hope to give you a glimpse into the hearts and minds of those characters. I pray that you will love Jesus even more this holiday season, as you read His wonderful story.

Mary

Once again, the angel Gabriel, was summoned to the holy throne of The Lord Most High. As instructed, the Messenger Angel swiftly made his way to the town of Nazareth, where a faithful servant was about to receive the news of her life.

Mary was a young girl who had grown to love the Lord, for she had always been told of His mighty ways. Her people had long-waited for the Messiah, and she lived in hope of His promise. Mary was the virgin daughter of a Jewish father, and she was pledged to be married to Joseph. As she began her chores that sunny morning, the day was like any other. She was alone, working mindlessly, when an unexpected guest arrived.

Without warning, Gabriel went to this humble, meek, unsuspecting girl and greeted her, telling her that she had found favor with God. And as this mighty angel spoke, Mary was troubled and afraid at his words: "You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

With a sincere, innocent heart, Mary asked God's messenger how this could be. And the answer she was given stirred her heart even more: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. For nothing is impossible with God."

Mary's heart was pure, and full of love and adoration for the Lord. Without a moment's hesitation, at the angel's final words, Mary stepped out in faith and responded: "I am the Lord's servant. May it be to me as you have said."

As Gabriel left her, Mary hung her head in reverence, and gently placed her unsteady hand on her stomach. This chosen, imperfect child of God, would carry and give birth to the promised, perfect Son of God. Blessed was she who believed.
