"My hope in writing is to glorify Jesus Christ, and to encourage you to love Him with all of your heart. I pray that you get a glimpse of the Father through these words and devotions. My desire is for heart-strings to be tugged and souls to be searched as I express my adoration for Jesus."

A Prayer for victims of Hurricane Katrina

Lord Jesus, Father God, Creator of Life,

Please continue to have mercy on the hurting, the lost, the ill, and the hopeless victims of the hurricane. Surround them with Your Holy Angels, Father, and hide them in the shelter of Your mighty wings. Walk among the hurting, Father. Touch them and hug them as You wipe their tears. Heal the sick, Great Physician. Allow them to reach up and touch the hem of Your garment as You pass them by. Please keep the enemy far away from Your people, Lord. Allow Your mighty angels to defend Your children from the dark forces that hover over the flooded streets of the city. Protect the innocent, and give strength to all.

I pray, Compassionate One, that the world would see Your glory in this tragedy. Somehow, some way, reassure the wounded that You continue to be in control of all things. You have not forgotten them, and Your heart breaks as You see them cry.

Breath of God, Blessed Holy Spirit, I pray that you breathe on the Your children, and fill them with Yourself. Give them the desire and Your strength to comfort the hurting, and remind them to be the Salt and the Light during this dark time. Fill them with Your courage, to praise the Name of Jesus, out loud, in the midst of the people. Help them to see some beauty, somewhere, somehow, with Your eyes.

You, Father God, are the Lifter of our Heads, when our faces are downcast, and eyes see the ground. Lift the world, Father, to cast our eyes upward, towards Heaven, to You instead.

Encourage Your people, Lord, to be Your hands and feet and voice now. Stir our hearts to help the hurting. We are haunted with the images we see, Lord. Enable Your servants to have the strength and wisdom to help the wounded recover. Give us practical knowledge, and the desire to do anything we can from the outside, as we look in. Send the help, with Your guidance, and restore the people and the land.

We love you and honor You, Father. Thank You, Lord, that the hurricane did not do any worse damage. Thank You, Lord, for the ones who are helping and encouraging the victims. Thank You, Father, for the ones who are crying out to You for help, and acknowledging Your presence. Thank You for the lives that will be forever changed to love you more. Thank You, Father, for being merciful, and full of grace.

Lord, in the future, when this flooded land has been restored, and the now shattered lives have begun to heal, may Your people never become complacent and lukewarm in their walk with You. May the desperation for You and the total dependency on You never leave their hearts and minds.

Thank You for hearing our prayers, Father.
Show us Your glory...

Praying earnestly
