Greetings to all of our Prayer Warriors - those praying for Caryl Lynne on
her adoption trip and those praying for me on this mission extension.
On Thursday I left Tyumen at 5 am and Caryl left at 8 am. She should be
cooling her heels at the hotel in Moscow and she flies out today (Friday) for home.
I arrived in St. Petersburg at 6 am Thursday (2 hour time difference from
Tyumen). I was met and brought to the Pulkova Hotel on the south side of the
city. My arrangements were very confusing due to
- it is summer time in St. Petersburg,
- it is the time of "White Nights" - 24 hours of daylight,
- it is the beginning of St. Petersburg's 300 birthday and,
- every tourist in Europe is here!
Not many hotel rooms available. I was subject to changing hotels every
day but fortunately one of my Rotary friends found me a room so today I move
from the Pulkova to the Rossiya where I should stay until I leave next Wednesday.
Yesterday was basically a wasted day since I could not get into my room until
noon but, the Lord took over and all was well. My host and hostess, Dick and
Lynn Mathie (Campus Crusade) met me and we did some planning. Right now they
are heavily involved with the group "Care Lift". Hundreds of folks from the
states touring orphanages, rehab centers and other type camps and homes. A very
interesting mission.
Last night I did get to go to Rotary and was honored by being part of the
annual officer installation celebration. Thanks to the Mathie's I had the
extremely professional and lovely Lada as my interpreter.
So far, my sights of St. Petersburg are from cab windows BUT the place is
beautiful. I can't wait until tomorrow to hit the sidewalks. Y'all will have to
wait for pictures to see what I mean about "Beautiful". There must be more
ornate palaces and cathedrals then in any other European city!
Today, after I get moved to the Rossiya, I will spend time planning with Dick
and Lynn. Then this evening, the team from Global Resources and Campus
Crusade are sponsoring a travelling Christian illusionist. Don't know my role yet,
but I will be there.
God bless y'all and see you in a week.
Serving Him!
