Mission to Russia - March - April 2003
April 3

Greetings to all wherever you may be,
It is actually April 4th here in Khabarovsk but my computer isn't
recognizing the time zone differences. That isn't the only thing we are
finding that is causing us to be technology challenged. We have yet to
be able to use any phone cards, can't get a computer hook-up; my
computer cord is a grounded plug but my power converter isn't. But, want
to know something? The Lord will guide us to solutions! This message
will cover from when we left home on Monday, March 31st through
yesterday, Thursday, April 3rd.
We left Columbia at 6 am on the 31st and where blessed with a prayerful
sendoff with David Abstanance, Dale Knight, Bette and Caryl Lynne
Plasket. The Lord immediately took over because our flight to Atlanta
was oversold; we were rerouted through Dallas; upgraded to First Class
from Dallas to LA. Sounds easy? Only because a gate agent understood we
were on Mission and wanted to help. However, we went through Dallas, our
bags went through Atlanta - we arrived in LA with only 1 hour to make
our connection to Seoul, Korea. We made our flight by walking right on
and our bags showed up in Seoul. We were in His hands!
We spent the night in Seoul (Tuesday) and left again for Khabarovsk at
9:30 am on Wednesday arriving at 2:30 pm. We actually "sailed" through
immigration and customs to the amazement of all concerned. We were met
by Connie, Janet and Rob (Missionaries), Vadim (Russian Business man)
and Tatiana (Russian Business Lady). Checked in to the Zarya hotel and
went to dinner with the missionaries. On the way back to the hotel we
stopped at a food market to stock up on goodies and water. Then we all
went to bed to be prepared for Thursday, the first day of our Pastors
Retreat.
Anyone who has ever been on a Mission trip knows that "flexibility" is a
necessity! Well, we had prepared for a group of 25 Baptist Pastors and
ended up with a group of both Pastors and Russian Businessmen. Other
than the fact that all of our presentations were geared to Pastors and,
we had to "adjust" on the spot, all went well because, He had made these
arrangements and would not permit us to be put-out. In our first
attached photo you will see Tommy giving his presentation. Our
interpreter, Vladimir, a Russian Pastor, actually did very well with
Tommy's Deep South talk.
In the second photo you will see a group of
Pastors and businessmen trying to turn a sheet over without stepping on
the floor. They did great and really enjoyed the exercise. It was a very
long day for us but, we all felt blessed by the experience.
After driving back to the City (oh, I almost forgot to say that the
Retreat is being held at the Khabarovsk Bible School on the outskirts of
Khabarovsk), we went to the new, and first, fast food establishment in
Khabarovsk, The Golden Chicken! Then back to our hotel by 9 pm to either
crash or prepare for our needed adjustments for Friday. At 10 pm my
phone rang and it was Tanya, one of the students I had met in October.
We made arrangements for her to take all of us on a tour on Saturday.
She also asked for more information about Jesus and wants to go to
church with us on Sunday - PTL!
Battery is low so I need to close. Please continue to pray for us.
We are His Team on the ground.

P.S. If y'all get this then I have bridged this gap!
